INTO DARKNESS
Into Darkness is a sci-fi horror LARP inspired by films such as Event Horizon, Cloverfield Paradox and Solaris. The game is designed the way that participants are confronted with psychologically stressful challenges, up to and including existential threats to their roles. Therefore it may not be suitable for faint-hearted people.
About 50 participants will represent the crew of the spaceship Demeter – a long-range research spaceship of the Nolan Watanabe Industries corporation. The ship is on the way to Hades Nebula to investigate a space anomaly. On the way, the abyss of the human soul opens up for the crew…
The game takes place at the Kreativ.Campus Herten (NRW) of the Waldritter e.V. For this purpose, the association purchased an old department store a few years ago and subsequently converted it into a live role-playing location. In addition to numerous self-designed backdrops and a sophisticated lighting, sound and IT system, the Waldritter e.V. also brought together several pieces of scenery from LARP and film productions from all over Europe and merged them into a playing area, unlike any other in Europe. Software has been developed especially for Into Darkness and is constantly being refined. It realistically simulates the virtual steering and control of the Demeter’s functions via consoles and monitors distributed throughout the ship. Participants can expect a unique immersive spaceship experience in the oppressive atmosphere of space.
OT Info: Into Darkness can not be „won“. The aim of the game is to fail phenomenally together with others, to get to know human abysses and to make borderline experiences that would be too risky in real life. The confrontation with death and/or madness – including one’s own role – is unavoidable after a certain point. If this setting is not for you, please look for any other of our events.

Rough time schedule
The event starts with your check-in latest at 6pm on Thursday. After that we will start with the structuring workshops, where the rules will be discussed, the game context will be established and you will get to know your fellow players better. The game ends on Saturday evening and leads into a big party, which we would like to celebrate together. On Sunday there will be a detailed reflection. The event will then end between 1pm and 2pm.
Accommodation
Accommodation is OT in shared rooms on the floor above the playing area or the neighboring building. The standard is on a youth hostel level with metal bunk beds and shared bathrooms. Duvets and pillows are provided. Please note, that we do not do a gender split for rooms, but we will do our best to accommodate any requests for housing. You will have the opportunity to indicate this later in the registration process.
For the overnight stay you will need:
– Bed sheet 90×200, duvet cover 135×200, pillow case 80×80
– Alternatively, bed sheet and sleeping bag
– Towel and personal wash bag.
Parking facilities
Loading your car is possible at the market „Ewaldstr. 20, 45699 Herten“ a few meters away from the playing area for a fee (weekdays 8am to 6pm – out of this times it is for free). It is not possible to use this loading zone Fridays between 7am and 2pm. For the duration of the LARP, free parking is available in the streets surrounding residential areas, for example „In der Feige“, „Nimrodstraße“ or „Wilhelmstraße“.
Arrive by train
the way from train station Herten to the play ground is 15 min to walk.

Clothes/garments:
We provide overalls (for crew) and lab coats (for scientific staff). Underneath you are free to wear your normal clothing of choice. The Demeter is a civilian ship, so there are no precise guidelines for the style of clothing. As it can get quite chilly in the playing area in winter, we recommend that people who freeze easy, dress accordingly.
Characters or roles
In the game, all participants portray roles that have been assigned to them in advance by the ORGA in a casting process. The roles are designed within an intricate web of relationships, sympathies and antipathies. The detailed casting takes place after the registration is completed. You will receive your roles about four weeks before the date of the event.
Who are the Waldritter
The Waldritter e.V. is the organizer of Into Darkness. The association was founded in 2007 and is a non-profit organization that provides education in a playful way throughout Germany. The association has already received several awards for its innovative offers.

Joining the into darkness team is on a voluntary basis. Options for activities are preparation (e.g. revision of plot or roles) and/or support at the event itself (e.g. NPC, SL, set-up and dismantling help, ORGA).
